WASHINGTON, D.C.—White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Monday explained President Biden’s decision not to wear a mask inside a D.C. restaurant is actually a story about a “heartwarming display of compassion” from “a living thing that is often misunderstood and stereotyped.”
Psaki defended the president as he became the latest public Democratic official to flout Democratic mask policies. Biden was photographed wandering around D.C.’s Fiola Mare restaurant Saturday night purportedly telling patrons, “I think I have a much higher IQ than you, I suspect,” according to one source familiar with the incident.
“I think what you are referring to is a photo of them walking out of a restaurant after they had eaten, mask in hand—where they had not yet put them back on yet,” Psaki said at her daily press briefing.
“I would say, of course, most normal people would need to put their masks back on. But we’re not talking about normal people here. It is well known throughout the scientific community that coronavirus has way too much respect for our president and the first lady and they simply will not infect them,” Psaki explained so deftly that even a Trump supporter could understand it.
She added, “If the rest of the country was as revered as the President of the United States, this pandemic would have been over long ago. But coronavirus doesn’t respect the rest of the country the way it respects President Biden. Sometimes he wears a mask to set an example, which we should all thank him for for being such a good role model. Maybe the country should think long and hard about how to earn the respect of the virus the way the president has.”
“Does that even make sense?” a bewildered Peter Doocy of Fox News asked.
“I think I just addressed it, Peter,” she curtly replied. “Now don’t make me put in the corner or send you to timeout. . . . And don’t you dare make me count to three.”
Psaki ended by saying if Peter would “go back and listen to the tape,” it would “all make sense.”
